Tax calculation assumptions

2026/27 · England · sources last verified 1 November 2026

  • This is an annualised estimate for employment income under a standard Personal Allowance and employee NI category A. It is not an exact PAYE payslip.
  • Monthly, weekly, and hourly inputs are annualised using 12 months or 52 weeks. Actual payroll uses pay-period thresholds and rounding, so deductions can differ.
  • Only employment income is included. Tax codes, benefits in kind, bonuses, other income, marriage allowance, Blind Person's Allowance, NI deferment, and prior-period adjustments are excluded.
  • Loan estimates use annual thresholds and do not round down to whole pounds each pay period as payroll does.
  • Pension annual-allowance charges, carry-forward, employer matching, qualifying-earnings rules, and minimum-wage limits on salary sacrifice are not modelled.

FAQ

Which tax year does this calculator support?

It supports the UK 2026/27 tax year from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027. Rates and thresholds were last verified against GOV.UK and HMRC sources on 1 November 2026.

Does the calculator support Scotland and Wales?

Yes. Scotland uses its six employment-income tax bands. Wales uses its verified 2026/27 Welsh rates, which match the 20%, 40%, and 45% rates used in England and Northern Ireland for this tax year.

How are pension contributions treated?

Choose salary sacrifice, a net-pay employee contribution, or relief at source. Each method is calculated separately because its Income Tax, National Insurance, loan, provider-relief, and cash effects differ.

Will this match my payslip exactly?

Not necessarily. It is an annualised estimate using a standard Personal Allowance and NI category A. Payroll works by pay period and can include tax codes, benefits, bonuses, other income, adjustments, and whole-pound loan rounding.

Are pension annual-allowance charges included?

No. Annual-allowance charges, carry-forward, employer matching, qualifying-earnings rules, and salary-sacrifice minimum-wage restrictions are outside this calculator. Check your scheme and seek professional advice where needed.

Are my salary details saved or sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs locally in your browser without uploading, storing, or tracking the salary and deduction values you enter.
